I would like to know what everyones status is toward the final playoff push. I think it would be fun for those owners who are on the bubble to discuss who they have to beat or how many more games they have to win to make the playoffs. I think it would be interesting.

Well guys I am off on vacation for the next week and let's just say the playoff race is turning into an exciting one... I cant wait until I return to see how the standings look:
I thought it would be interesting to take a simple statistical look at the playoff standings to see what the picture looked like.
Obviously this is not reflective of who the teams have yet to play (or their relative strength) - but just looks based on history how this thing might finish off - will be interesting to see what the end state looks like - and - of course play-downs to playoffs are always a different game:
Team PTS/GP AVG STANDING PTS
NJ (46/32) 1.44 VAN (43/31) 1.39 OTT (35/33) 1.06 SJ (36/32) 1.13 NSH (33/28) 1.18 MTL (32/29) 1.10 DAL (28/28) 1.00 CAR (28/30) 0.93 ANA (28/28) 1.00 STL (26/27) 1.33 DET (23/27) 0.85 PIT (16/25) 0.64
The 6 bold-ed look good for playoffs but with Montreal under new ownership - will be interesting to see if he can hold the average to grab a spot after the teams great start in regular season play.
Ottawa also is just hanging just above the battle zone in 7th spot - can ownership hold on tight? Dallas and Anaheim in a battle for the 8th spot - but Carolina is hovering in the wings - with allot of work to do and without question needs to have an excellent season end to have a shot at the Cup.
Its not over until its over Pittsburgh and Detroit have some work to do - but definitely need and exemplary finish to get any shot.
It's play-down hockey and with many teams still needing to use backup tending to meet the minimum league requirements for the season...
One thing is for sure - the next week or so is going to be interesting...
Good luck to all owners!

Carolina tumbles down to Nashville tonight loosing 4-2 - taking a major and almost certain step backwards in its playoff position hopes...
With their season currently at 13-16-2 - their playoff hopes fade.
28/31 .090 - pretty tough at this point - three games remaining in Carolina's regular season play-down action:
Pittsburg St Louis Montreal
3 wins would make the average 34/34 - which would bring them to a 1.00 average - even at that no guarantees. Without question 3 wins ARE needed for Carolina to even hope to have a spot at this point.

im officially on what i believe is about a 9 game losing streak right now, i dont know how this could happen, but this tumble finds me in 9th place and with a losingrecord for the first time this season! All i need is 2 wins in my last 5 games and ill gain a playoff spot for sure, but im not so sure that 2 wins is possible for my time, we've tried so many changes i dont know what to do
tonight, ive made another chang, putting clowe up and gettin him playing time, and having a skilled first line. we've also re-united pronger and neidermayer for the first time all season, and im putting brzgalov in nets, even though osgood has had an amazing season, we need a change

Well just so this thread isn't all gloom and doom.... Nashville has been on a tear lately winning 6 of their last eight and making a strong push towards the playoffs. Foresberg stepped up big last night with a two goal performance against the 'canes and is trying to ensure a stronger playoff run than last year. The preds remaining schedule includes the bottom three teams and Montreal.

Montreal has a definate playoff spot. It depends on how other teams play do decide which of the 8 spots it will have.
